If you are stitching using aida cloth that already has holes, you don’t need super sharp needles. More then that, you should prefer the rounded tip of a tapestry needle to ensure you don't accidentally split the fiber you're stitching with.

Embroidery hoops and frames help to the fabric in right position and to keeping stitching tension even. If it is possible, choose a hoop that will be bigger than your design, this way you will be able to complete the x-stitch project without repositioning the frame over stitched work.
Don't forget to remove your embroidery hoop in between stitching sessions so that your aida fabric does not stretch.

It is very important to work slowly when you try new techniques or stitching fibers such as metallic flosses. That way you learn how to do it properly without accidentally messing up your pattern along the way.
To begin, work a narrow hem or overlock stitch around your fabric to prevent fraying of the edges. Fold the fabric in half, then half again, finger press lightly. Run a basting stitch along each fold line to mark the center of the fabric. (These will be removed when stitching is finished.)
Make sure your stitches are not too tight. If you pull down the needle too tight, the stitches will look flat, and the Aida fabric may
be damaged.
Of course it is preferable to embroider in natural light: it puts less strain on your eyes, but it does not always work. So try to embroider closer to the lamp.
Try to plan the whole design in advance. Check that you have all the accessories. This is so annoying when the thread is over, when all the cross-stitch project is almost done.
Before washing your cross-stitch project, just check the fibers for colorfastness to prevent dyes from running. It is simple: dampen a piece of white cloth with water and gently rub it over each different color in your piece. If there is any color transfer to the white cloth don’t wash your piece if you want prevent your work from discoloration and fading.
