There are a lot of styles of embroidery hoops and frames. It is your decision whether you use one or not. If you a beginner cross-stitcher perhapse you will prefere to put your fabric in an embroidery hoop. Just don’t pull your fabric too tight or it will distort the weave of the fabric.

Don't leave the project in the hoop overnight. When you're done cross-stitching for the day don't forget to take it out of the hoop. Your embroidery project needs rest to!
And another important thing. No matter which direction your top leg of stitch is going, but please be sure that they are all going in the same direction.

Most designs supposed to be done using two strands of embroidery floss. But the floss is usually sold in six strand packaging.
So before threading your needle, you should separate all the 6 strands.
To do it just cut somewhat about 15”-18” (35 - 45 cm) of the thread. Hold it near the top with one hand allowing the bottom to untwist. Now pull each ply upward with the other hand. Carefully - one at a time.
Combine the necessary number of strands (typically two) and save the remaining for the next usage.
If you want to iron your cross-stitch project, set your iron to its lowest "Warm" setting. While ironing place your cross-stitch project on top of two or three smooth towels right side down.
You can use another flat towel to put over the back of the fabric ,to safely iron your cross-stitch design.
There are of organizers to choose from. Some of them very handy. They will help you to keep organized while stitching. For example you can use a pincushion to stick your needles into. There are a lot of thread organizers too.
Make sure your stitches are not too tight. If you pull down the needle too tight, the stitches will look flat, and the Aida fabric may
be damaged.
Of course it is preferable to embroider in natural light: it puts less strain on your eyes, but it does not always work. So try to embroider closer to the lamp.
Try to plan the whole design in advance. Check that you have all the accessories. This is so annoying when the thread is over, when all the cross-stitch project is almost done.
